Clinic Information
The surgeries offer a full range of health and disease management clinics
and there are facilities for carrying out minor surgery. Please make an
appointment if you would like to attend any of the clinics.
Travel Immunisation
These are given by the nurse after consultation. You will need to complete
a travel vaccination form which you can download by clicking on the links below.
Please allow a minimum of 48 hours after
returning the form to us before booking an appointment. This gives the nurse
time to check your records and assess your immunisation requirements.
If possible, please contact us at least 6 weeks before your intended date of
travel, to allow vaccination courses to be completed in good time.

Acupuncture Acupuncture is a treatment that consists of pricking the patient with a
special needle at “trigger points”. It developed in China about 2000 years
ago. The kind of acupuncture practised at the surgery is modern (or
non-traditional) and is carried out by Dr Newman. Modern acupuncture means
that only a few needles are generally used and they are left in for only a
short time. Many diseases can be helped by acupuncture, although some people
react better than others to the treatment. In general acupuncture is good
for pain in the muscles and joints, and also for disorders including
migraine, some allergies, painful periods and ulcerative colitis. Please ask
for an appointment with Dr Newman.
Antenatal and Postnatal Examinations
These are carried out at the surgeries at various times of the day to allow you
to choose the most convenient time. The doctors and the midwife both run the
clinic.
Asthma/Respiratory Clinic
We provide a service which follows locally agreed guidelines for the management
of asthma and COPD within the community, using specially trained staff.
You may also be seen by our Health Care Assistant who supports the Practice
Nurses with these clinics.
Children's Immunisation Schedule
We feel it is essential that our children are protected from infectious diseases
as far as possible. You will normally receive an appointment when your child's
injections are due.
For a current immunisation schedule please visit the
NHS Immunisation
Information website.
Diabetic Clinic
We aim to provide a full and shared service co-operating with our local diabetic
specialists and specialist nurse. We also work closely with Mr Richard Broughton
of John Harwood Optometrists for diabetic eye checks. You may also be seen
by our Health Care Assistant who supports the Practice Nurses with these
clinics.
Family Planning
Advice in all forms of contraception, including fitting of caps and coils, is
carried out at Hillview Medical Centre with Dr Helena Newman.
General advice and pill prescriptions are available in normal surgery and from
our Practice Nurses.
Health Promotion Clinic
A positive approach is taken to encourage a healthy lifestyle in relation to
diet, exercise, stress reduction, obesity, smoking and alcohol problems.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which aims to help the body to heal itself.
Homeopathic medicines act by stimulating the body’s own defence and healing
systems.
Remedies are prepared from natural sources and are diluted and “succussed” (a
process of vigorous shaking and mixing) many times. This results in the
production of safe substances which cannot poison you. An important aspect of
homeopathy is its safety and minimal side effects. If you are interested in
trying a homeopathic remedy instead of, or as well as conventional treatment, ask
for a homeopathic appointment with Dr Newman.
Meningitis C Vaccine
All first year students who are at, or going to, college or university are
eligible for the meningitis vaccine. Please ring reception for an appointment.
Meningitis C vaccines are being introduced progressively to all children aged
under 13 months and young people from ages 15-20 years.
Minor Surgery
This is carried out in our well-equipped Treatment Room at Hillview Medical
Centre by special appointment with a doctor.
Registration Health Checks
These are carried out, mainly by our practice nurse, to a standard protocol, and
will be offered to you when you join the practice.
Teenage Health
The health of our young adults is very important. Our practice nurses provide a
general health check and also give young people a chance to discuss in complete
confidence any concerns they may have.
Practice Based Commissioning
We work closely with three other practices in the
locality, under the banner of Central Woking Commissioning Group, to
develop new services for all our patients. Clinics are usually operated from
Woking Community Hospital, reducing the need for referral to St Peter's
Hospital, as was the case in the past. Currently, these services include
orthopaedic problems, opthalmology, pain management and 24hr ECG recording, with
more planned for the future. Your doctor can refer you to them directly as
required.
